Vending Machine Selections by Margaret Leora Workman; Warponie Art
“Who wants…? Cookies, chips, and such. Gummies; worms or bears. Soda anyone?”
“The last time that I had this one the item stuck to the wrapper, so I had to cut it off to get the sugary part. I do not have a knife, so I guess I will not choose that one!”
“Chips?”
“Too salty, my doctor said that I need to have less salt because it makes me bloated.”
“Cookies?”
“The sugar rush is too much for me. I need a substantial meal.”
“Ok, but you are no fun!”
“Well, the clown came to the circus, but I didn’t like his hideous makeup!”
“Ok, I did not mean to offend you, but we like to eat all of these vending machine selections! They are bad for us, but this is all that is available, and you are a downer!”
“Yes, I know but I am still hungry later.”
“This business will not spend the money to put the more expensive, nice items in our vending machine and anyway this is what we have so this situation gives us an excuse to make bad choices!”
“Oh, so now you are admitting that these are bad choices!?”
“No and yes. We don’t really like these choices, but they are all that we have so just be happy. Yes, they will destroy us in the end, but it is fun while it lasts!”
“How long is that?”
“We must buy all of these items in the vending machine! We have to spend a lot of money for all of these, not just one will be enough for us.”
“Maybe I could find a different job with a different vending machine?”
“Won’t work! Don’t you think we have already looked? Are you saying we make these choices on purpose? We just take what we are given.”
“I think I will bring my lunch.”
“Well, you won’t be in our group then and besides, we share all of them together. I know that you don’t like to share.”
“Yes, that’s true. I won’t share because I like my own selection all to myself. I know I will find one of these selections who does not like to be pieced out. I quit.”
