Tripoly by Margaret Leora Workman; Warponie Art

I started writing this story three years ago. I decided to post it here. I wanted to talk about how I think that it is possible that robots could become human. I wanted to talk about how their brains could become flesh which would allow them adapt just like humans adapt. This idea has been around since I can remember, but now with the surge of Artificial Intelligence, lately, it seems like situations like these could be realized. What do you think??

Omen and His Team

Tripoly is spinning today out of control…

Omen kept hearing this propaganda all day as he walked through the city of Meshar. This is all he heard as he walked by all of the stores that were selling TV’s and radios. Omen wondered why this situation had started. He hated what he was hearing because he could see it wasn’t true, unless his device he was using to monitor Tripoly wasn’t working properly. Tripoly was his home planet that he had been monitoring on his device for seven months. Tripoly was very close to Meshar, the planet that he was visiting. The subjects here were very similar to himself and the other robots on Tripoly. One of the reasons why he was here was to monitor these subjects. The Croysters led his home planet, Tripoly, and he hated how they could tell him where to go, what to do, and how long he was going to do it for. He had worked his whole life to rise through the ranks of Tripoly and he found that the other robots were easily dominated by himself in brain and brawn.
He had been trying to communicate with another robot leader, shekrel, for some time and had been unsuccessful in reaching, Sir, who was on Tripoly. His team of robots needed to know what needed to be done and he felt as if he had been failing them. He could feel his body deteriorating. He had been away from his home planet too long. The soft covering over his metal was showing signs of wear. This was also happening to his team and missing this communication was causing fear and anxiety to enter his mind. The subjects on this planet must not know that he and his team were here and if they saw their shells deteriorating then they would suffer the consequences. Looking at these subjects while he was walking was revolting to his mind and body. The way they lived was equally as disgusting as their bodies were kept. They smelled of rotten sewage and other stench that permeated the air around them as they walked. Their skin was slimy and sallow in color and this was the color of the soft covering he and his team had to assimilate to before coming here. Some of these subjects, he noticed, were deformed when compared to others who lived on this planet. These deformed visitors who were from other planets were not detected by the original subjects who lived here. Omen and his team were sent to this planet to study these visitors because they were traveling to Tripoly and destroying it. They were able to see different types of beings using their eyes to scan these subjects while walking by them and that information was downloaded into their brain and held in the data base that had been created there. Their eyes allowed them to see what was under the soft outer shell of all of these beings. They reported back to Sir on Tripoly what their findings were that three different types of beings or visitors have been found here on Meshar living among the original beings. He was thinking again of Shekrel when one of the beings caught his eye. But then he realized it was Shekrel and that he looked different. This was alarming to Omen because Shekrel had risen through the ranks at the same pace that he had and they had become great friends just like brothers. Then Shekrel glanced at Omen and then walked by as if he hadn’t seen omen at all. Omen was confused because Shekrel was distant and cold in his attitude. Omen was frustrated about this situation because he wondered what had happened to Shekrel during the time that Omen had not been able to be in contact with him and what about Sir, why had Omen not heard from her. Omen was prepared to ask him about that but did not trust him now and Omen felt very alone. He knew that Shekrel had noticed him and he was confused about how Shekrel had treated him. He knew that Shekrel had blocked Omen’s mind from reading him and was feeling fearful about what Shekrel was involved in on this planet. Omen’s throat started to close up and then fear and panic struck his mind. He started walking faster into the crowd to collect the thoughts running through his being about what was happening. He tried not to look back but he had to see if Shekrel was still in sight. Shekrel was there staring at the same television that Omen had been looking at, thinking about Shekrel. Shekrel was staring through the glass then turned his head and looked directly at Omen and threw a mine at Omen. Omen realized at that moment that Shekrel was against him and that was the reason he had ignored him. All of the robots who had traveled to Meshar from Tripoly were all at the same level which was 2a. Omen wondered as the mine was traveling toward him if his own system was evolving forward to level 2b because he realized he was having thoughts that involved emotions such as fear and anger. Omen was able to slow the mine down by controlling it with his mind and then he caught it. If Omen had let it fall to the ground it would have blown up and all of the beings on Meshar would have been alerted to Omen and his team’s presence here on Tripoly. Then Shekrel vanished. Suddenly brown moths covered the area where he had been, and flew away. Some of the beings saw those moths and seemed perplexed. The presence of these moths had become more common here on Meshar because of the ways the visitors and original beings were destroying their own planet. Beings from this planet were using more pesticides in their farming communities. Factories were polluting rivers and it was seeping into the ground water. The air was being polluted by all of the steam from the factories. This was destroying all of the animals who lived here and natural resources this planet had and the whole planetary system of how this planet interacted with all of the other planets was being destroyed. Because of this moths were decimating crops and destroying needed resources on Meshar. His planet Tripoly was affected by this as well. These moths were available and very commonly found and so were being used by the controllers of this planet to destroy it. The controllers were also using other forms of warfare against their own subjects on this planet. The controllers were sending signals through the air to control their subjects in many different ways and Omen and his team were here to study all of these situations for the safety of his planet Tripoly.
He placed the mine in his pocket and then was able to tag some of the beings who were deformed. He halted time and walked over to the four middle aged beings, stunned their faces and beamed them to Tripoly where they received them into the complex for further study. He stood in front of the glass where his friend shekrel had stood. He was tying to understand at what point he had started evolving and if it would continue. A voice came into his mind. Sir told him that his placement beam of the subjects had been successful and they were being placed into their separate rooms for questioning and study. He knew that Sir needed to find out if those subjects had destroyed any part of Meshar and what the damage was. Omen had thoughts of anger at Sir and the situation of being stuck on Tripoly. He asked if he and his team could come back because their outer coverings were getting too soft. He wanted sir to know what had happened with shekerel and he wondered about shekrels team and where they were. He expressed his anger at sir for not communicating with him and leaving them to deteriorate on Meshar. Suddenly he could see his whole team in his mind and then they were in their familiar compound on Tripoly. Then he saw strife and turmoil every where and the two red moons were colliding in the sky and Tripoly seemed to be in an unstable orbit. He could feel his outer covering getting strong and thick like leather again and he felt relieved. He could see the outer shells of the other robots on his team were also getting stronger because of the chemical compounds in the air were different here. He could hear their thoughts of relief but fear and angst was being read by Omen as well. He realized they were evolving just as he was and their thoughts about their home planet Tripoly were flooding his mind. He wondered where sir was because they needed help understanding why they were evolving. Omen and his five other team members had to yell at each other to be heard above the noise of the moons colliding against each other. Red rocks on the two moons were raining down upon them and others on Tripoly. Omen could feel that Tripoly was shifting under their feet and he became fearful again. Then he heard sir contacting him in his mind. Sir told Omen and the other robots to get to room C in the compound. They told sir of the turmoil that they were seeing and sir agreed that Tripoly was getting more unstable. Sir explained that they needed to talk about what needed to be done. The gases on Tripoly were being negatively affected and that was causing the planet to shift. The solid ground of the planet was separating because the elements and atoms in the air were creating friction. Suddenly the emergency warning signal for his home planet blared. It warned the inhabitants to find a safe place and seek shelter immediately. Omen assumed that the Croystes who were the leaders of Tripoly set it off. Servel, who was a robot on Omen’s team, asked sir what to do. Sir said to hurry and meet in room C. Suddenly a large hand gripped the entire planet of Tripoly and shook it. Omen could hear screaming and Servel was yelling and telling sir what was happening because she had turned around to go to Room C. Then suddenly they could see sir near the hand that had gripped their planet. The huge hand was grabbing Inhabitants who were falling into his hand and he started smashing their heads with his teeth. He was desperately grabbing them from the face of the planet and squashing them as threw them into his mouth to violently smash their heads. Omen tried not to look at them as they were being devoured as he felt great sadness for them while they were screaming in pain and horror. The alien’s head was as big as their planet of Tripoly. Sir was trying to stop this from happening by pulling them out of the alien’s mouth. Omen wondered if the inhabitants were being magnetized by the alien which allowed them to be easily pulled into his mouth. Omen could see his tongue licking his teeth while the inhabitants were being pulled in and eaten. Omen and his team spoke to each other in their minds and decided to activate their beams and aim them at the ground right in front of the alien’s mouth which allowed them to be transported there. They aimed their beams into the alien’s eyes and were burning its retinas. Sir was directing all of the inhabitants away from the giant and was screaming at them to find shelter. Since sir was so close to the alien giant Omen thought of an ax being in sir’s hand. He saw it appear and then she jumped on the nose of the giant and threw the ax into the cornea of the alien giant’s eye. The robot team’s beams and sir caused the giant to let go of Tripoly.
