If you live in an old house or have other situations where your outlet is three pronged and your extension cord is only a two pronged plug. They have these adapters at all stores. That means that whatever electrical association exists gave us permission to use them.

See how it’s two pronged in one side and three holes in the other side. This is my fridge. I moved it and the cord is not long enough to be plugged in at the nearest outlet. Extension cords are fine! Extension cords have different ratings and gauges (gage). There are small ones and very large heavy duty ones. If you have something like a portable air conditioner that uses a lot of watts, BTU’s and amps..look on the side of the box or google the item to see how many that item uses. Then google what type of extension cords and their gauge that would be needed for that wattage and BTU and amperage for it to run properly. Lawnmowers, space heaters, portable air conditioners, etc. will need a higher rating or gauge for extension cords. Sometimes they do not carry them at Walmart and you will have to buy them at Amazon or Walmart.com (online), or at a hardware store.
