This door is a door that I added at the end of the hallway in my apartment that leads from my kitchen into the living room and the door to the left of this white vent is a bedroom. I had put up bead board over that so that I could rent out the living room. The renter who had been there for like a month left suddenly, today, so I thought I would try something different to get a few more feet for myself. I cut open the wall through the closet in the bedroom to make a doorway btwn the bathroom and the bedroom. Looking at this picture I notice that spot on the ceiling that I didn’t know was there!

This is what is behind the gray door, styrofoam and cardboard to create a sound barrier. I attached it to the door with staples. It was like a tiny laundry room, utility closet thingy.
I had this box from the mini split (that still isn’t working, sadness). I taped it up with some really bad duct tape that somehow got ruined. I was able to get really narrow strips off of it. I used it as a ‘duct’. Since this isn’t really an official wall I thought it could work, and it really did! I used a jigsaw to cut those pieces of wood for the cardboard vent to sit on. I removed the vent so that I could place it on the other side of the bead board. I wanted to look like a vent, and it really works.

I used the door as a support so that I could screw the board to the wall. I used a jigsaw to cut the hole on the board. It was really dark and the jigsaw bit is really crooked so it was hard to get it really perfectly straight. I am trying to find a better jig saw. This has happened with the craftsman jigsaw. This is a new one as my other one just fell apart.

Now I have an L-shaped closet. I had wanted the mini-split to be done so that I could have used that to cool this room with that room as well, with that system. When it gets done then I can do that and maybe reconfigure it then. I am going to finish the trim on the bottom on that right hand side, from my side of the wall. I was able to get this done in a few hours, ready for the next renter that rented it this evening! Thank goodness!!
I want to say that whoever planned the way this apartment was built sort of didn’t do it very well in my opinion, but maybe I would have done an even worse job of it! What if I were to meet this person? Do you ever wonder about these things? Like if you met them randomly, what would you think of them? Would you break down in tears right in front of them in the grocery store? That happened one time at a previous house. The house was seriously destroyed on the inside. We had bought it with the knowledge of having to fix and update every single thing (that’s how I felt). The dad of the adult kids who had lived there showed up one day and was so happy about his house being so wonderful. I was thinking that maybe he had no idea how it had gotten destroyed by his sort of grown teenagers. I did not tell him, I didn’t want his whole day to be destroyed.
