I used a dresser drawer that I have been saving for about three years! I wanted this to be ‘farmhouse’ style for Thanksgiving. It was very easy. I used card stock and cardboard petals that I used as a stencil. you could do many things with this!

Paint it black with white petals and add wire to make it more modern.

decoupage it with fabric and then add wrapped fabric roses; use staples or hot glue.

Color the petals or paint them either water colors.

Add wooden buttons or other embellishments.

Cover with fabric and use hot glue.

You could buy special paint that makes it seem like enamel.

Write Happy Thanksgiving on it or give it as a present for Christmas.

Kids could paint different designs on the petals and sign them for grandma.

If you are thinking of sewing you can use old pillow cases, sheets, or old clothes! You can make cardboard stencils out of cracker boxes of the different sized squares, triangles, flowers etc…use a pen to draw around them on the back of the fabric so that you can see the marks in order to cut it out. They also have chalk pencils. If you use chalk pencils, that will allow you to see the marks on the face of the fabric. The stencils are easier to use and faster and more accurate. That is only my opinion! There are soooo many sewing tutorials on youtube about sewing. Also, you will have to thread the sewing machine. Just find a tutorial on YouTube for your specific sewing machine, or you could use the owners manual! Remember you have to thread it on the top, or over the machine and then you have to wind a bobbin using the top of the machine so that you can put that bobbin under the metal/plastic compartment under the foot. If you do not use a bobbin the thread will come out of the fabric after you sew it because you have to sew each side of the fabric with the machine for the thread to catch onto each other. So fun! There are different thicknesses of thread as well. Quilting thread, etc…it’s definitely NOT overwhelming. Then use an old blanket and sew a quilt top onto that, a new blanket! Then do some appliqué right on top of that, maybe draw a huge cat on some fabric with puffy paint and sew it onto that, then stitch a frame around the cat picture with a slip stitch. Make sure that all of your loose ends are caught up on the under side of the blanket! Or you could sew grandma’s favorite shirt onto the cat, she will always wish that she could still wear that shirt every time that she sees that blanket, which will be each Christmas after Christmas dinner. Let’s not talk about GMA! Also, have you ever wanted to follow a sewing pattern for clothes? There are some really nice sewing patterns that fit today’s societal norms! Or you could do some 1950’s clothing patterns with friends just to have fun. Find them on eBay or a ‘look-a-like’ 1950’s pattern on Amazon. At least you will know that all of the pieces are there. Just buy one pattern with different styles on the front, then everyone can share that one pattern . What about making a coat?? Out of upholstery??

I sort of like this one.

I sort of like this one. I also like many of the trench coats and pea coats. None of those have hoods but I guess you could knit a hat…
