Marketing class response by Margaret Leora Workman; Warponie Art 2023
I will be adding a new business, Singing Telegrams, and an art group that I will advertise as having one time per month to my business that I already have called Warponie Art. I sell used clothing, original art, photography and original handmade jewelry on eBay. I will move to California so that I can add this new business to the already existing business, in order to bring in more customers. These singing telegrams will be offered at:
Rodeos
Birthday parties
Work parties
Valentine’s day
Christmas parties
Graduation parties.
I will create fliers that discuss these products and services. I will distribute them on cars and at doors of homes in the area of the beach in California. Then each Saturday I will hand them out as well to people walking. I will give a coupon for a free telegram, free time to come to an art group that I will start along with the singing telegrams, and also a credit to go towards anything in the store. I will have this at my house as a type of garage sale that I will advertise on Craigslist and other popular platforms that California may use to advertise garage sales. Since I sell used clothing then that will apply. I will also have items at the garage sale that I have purchased at thrift stores that could be an applicable item to sell at a garage sale. I will have a list of songs for people to choose from and if they have a favorite song then we will sing that one for them. I used to be a part of choir and high school show choir in high school. The show choir group was called Music Makers. We would go to businesses in town and sing for them for Valentine’s Day. The school organized these singing telegrams for all of these people with our help. It was so much fun. I went to music festivals and contests singing in groups and I also sang solos at contests. We would always perform well, and we were always part of regional and state contests. I was in two plays in high school as well: Oklahoma and Brigadoon. For this new business I would want another person with me for safety reasons and that would make it seem more professional as well. I chose California because California seems more artistic and welcoming because of the characteristics and culture of the people there seem to me to be fun. The art groups will be advertised on these fliers as well. This will build relationships with the local people there. The art that we create will be much like the art that I will display at the garage sales that I will have once per week.
I will use the geographic, psychographic and behavioral models together. The geographic models will support the other two. Psychographic segmentation is based on using personality, attitude, values and interests. In my opinion this will work together with the behavioral model which involves evaluating tendencies, frequent actions, features, habits and product use. In the article, Best Types of Businesses to Start in California it states:
“At its best, the California business environment is as sunny as its climate, a place where big corporations, longtime family businesses and upstart entrepreneurs thrive. There are millions of small businesses in this state to meet the needs of the biggest population in the nation.”
