Do you remember those old west photographs that professional photographers used to take back in the 90’s to early 2000’s? They always had their trailers parked at fairs advertising their abilities to take those black and white photographs. I never saw those advertisements until after I had ridden all of the rides, and the park was already going to close. The bungie jump thingy that threw you in the air was a favorite, kind of. I felt that if I didn’t ride that then I couldn’t say that I had even gone to the fair! I always worried that those fair workers really secretly hated our town or whatever town they were staying in and would disable the rides “accidentally”. What do they care? Or made the tilt-a-whirl go faster than it was supposed to. I was always on these rides, and I would purposefully look out at the crowd, and they always seemed worried while they were looking at us on the rides. They had been happily talking to people and then their faces would turn into faces of fear looking at all of the people riding to their death. Just kidding. I was talking to someone about these photographs today and I wonder if I still live in the past. I haven’t seen these around really for many years, but I thought they would still be popular! You have to dress up in all of the costumes that they have and then they take your picture in a pretend saloon or jail! The color that is used for the photography is really brown and white instead of black and white, so it gives it more of an old fashioned ‘feel’.

If there isn’t anything available like that in your town you could still do this.

Just find old clothes at thrift stores and stores always have plastic guns in their toy section. Just look at pictures of the old west and what they wore just to make sure that you remember. Just take pictures with a smart phone, whatever one you have. Make sure that the camera works on it! Then when you print them just choose the option of printing them out in black and white instead of color. You will have to have a color printer. You can buy glossy photo paper at the store, it is inexpensive. Printers are around $100 to $150. Then you can have pictures in color and black and white. It will not be the old-fashioned brown, but no one cares. Then print it out. If you want to make Christmas cards with those all you have to do is find Christmas fabric to place around the picture after its printed, or any other décor. Or you can take the photographs and cut out each person and place that image on fun Christmas fabric or set it up next to a Christmas décor item that is already on your mantel. Place Christmas fabric behind that and then take a picture of that. Also don’t forget to take a picture of the picture that you printed out and placed on the Christmas fabric. It will become a border for that picture. Print those out. If you keep the print as an 8.5X11 then you could do a bunch of those and make some type of family calendar out of that. You could use whatever software that you can find that does slides. You could add each picture to a slide. Power point from Microsoft office has that but there are other apps that do slides as well, and they might be free. Send those to people for Christmas. Power point is easy. Also, there are many tutorials on YouTube. Or whatever software or app that you use is bound to have a tutorial on that. If you want to do physical cards, then some printers give you the option to print out different sizes of pictures that you have taken. My cannon printer does that. You just have to go into the app to set it up as a printer and then when you want to print a picture just go into the app and into the settings and choose the type of paper and size that you want to be printed. Mine does 4 x 6, Just use double sided tape and tape the pictures to card stock that you have cut and folded in half. You might be able to save some money doing this and if your town does not have this type of photographer available then this could be one option.
