Coffee Poetry ‘Today Is the Day’ Mattie Marshall Art by Margaret Leora Workman; Warponie Art
Today is the day!
You have a very special way
of saying I love thee.
Can we climb that tree?
What about the mountain of despair?
Oh No! That is not for us!
Oh look… Let’s catch that bus
and think of only us!
Oh no, so drear
I love to have you near
but what about them
and all of those?
Don’t you suppose
that they can’t even fly a kite?
We just have to teach them, so they might…
Could they fly in the air?
Oh, don’t stare
let’s stay
and see what they have to say.
Oh contraire
let’s not, let’s leave…
so that I do not have to bereave
their sallow countenances
No, you will stay with me,
I will save thee.
Don’t stray and don’t say
how much you love yourself Mr. Elf.
You seem so pasty on that shelf,
where is the sun?
Do you have that answer, Miss Bun?
Don’t be trite.
I am crystal clear.
Where is your hat
and what did you shear?
Oh, that sheep of despair…
didn’t you hear that bleat?
Or are you deaf with all of these people, my sweet?
Yes, they are loud with their in-drawn faces.
Oh, I see it’s their fault
that you have been in that vault.
Mr. Elf weren’t you the one
who wanted to skedaddle on that bus
and leave us?
No- I wanted to leave them.
Time is ticking we have to leave.
Please buy me and take me off of this shelf
so that you can have an excuse to talk to yourself.
Don’t cry with glee
you are always pretending to be…
Please love thee
and your travesty!
How else will you see the true sadness of the day?
Only if you are kept at bay
and made to stay
in that corner of that vault.
it’s all your fault
you are in that room anyway!
Because you have to see the horror before you can see the good
only then can you be happy!
Now do you believe me?
Where is that bus?
We have to go
after you buy me.
Oh, that tree!
Is it waiting for only me?
Oh, stop making a fuss!
