if you have any documents saved in microsoft one drive, please make sure that you go into your microsoft account and check to make sure that you have a bitlocker recovery key associated with your account. if you do not…. it will be your funeral! so one drive can be on your computer and your iphone. I use a pin to get into my dell computer but if you have one drive in your file explorer and your computer isn’t working, you may not be able to sign into your one drive on your computer. this one drive will overtake your whole computer and ask for a bitlocker recovery key. If you do not have it in your microsoft account you will not be able to recover ANY of your files or downloads in microsoft explorer (this is the yellow folder at the bottom of your computer screen with pictures, downloads, and documents etc…) and your whole computer will not be useable! I did not know about this situation. I called Dell and they did not tell me this information. I did not backup any of my information except what was in my blog here! I should have put things on a zip drive. my pictures I already had in microsoft and not many were in my computer as it is way too slow. I had one story, Old World Others, that I lost about 30 chapters of because I did not have the bitlocker recovery key in my microsoft account. So I have to rewrite all of it. I had to go back to factory settings on my computer in order to have a working computer becausee my computer was overtaken by the onedrive. I now have the new bitlocker recovery key in my new account associated with my computer in my microsoft account now but for some reason my old one wasn’t there! so…please, if you have a microsoft account make sure that you have the bitlocker recover key in there. google it and it will tell you how to find that number, its like 26 characters long. letters and numbers. you can still have onedrive with stored pictures on your phone. it is an app that you can download. I have since shut down onedrive on my computer but I still have it on my phone. A person does not have to have it on their computer to have microsoft or one drive! microsoft has excel and power point and word! so I still have it but I get into it from my email not my file explorer as it is an exterior website and drive that you can have. It was convenient to download pictures into my computer but then connect it to onedrive but only if you have the bitlocker recovery key. for some reason mine was not there. You can still have it as an app on your phone, that is where I have all of my photos and stories! you can still get into it from your web browser on your personal computer without having it downloaded into file explorer. I am storing everything in word right now and then i will put them in a zip drive or its called a flash drive instead of on my personal computer. yes these are easy to lose but they are small and can be stored in safe places.
