Admirable Grasshopper by Margaret Leora Workman; Warponie Art

Did you know that today is Native American Heritage Day? I thought that it was a whole month?? So I remember learning about how different types of Native Americans lived in different houses in public school. Tepees, log houses or were they called something else? Then what else? They moved around a lot, with the buffalo. Historians really shouldn’t read any of my posts. They could catch fish with long wooden poles that they made into spears. They were amazing trackers and knew how to hunt without guns! they skinned animals and made furs out of their hides! They knew how to season and smoke the meat to save for many months. I really like that they used all parts of the animal so that it wasn’t wasted. There were many different tribes who fought against each other and painted their faces depending on which tribe that they were in. There are a great amount of books written on Native Americans at every library, they are fun to learn about because they were here when America was discovered by the explorers, but they were here first. They helped the pilgrims to survive the harsh winters and helped them to know how to be farmers. Many of the people who came here from England did not know how to do any of that, so thank goodness for the Indians!
