Ring-Billed Gull by Margaret Leora Workman; Warponie Art

I looked up the taxonomy of this bird and I am very confused. The genus name is Larus which is Latin. and somehow more specifically it becomes the ring-billed gull. At some point ‘domain’ and a couple of other words were added onto the taxonomy of animals. I was hoping it was a fluke or a situation of the ‘Eurasia’ kind. Anyway these animals are the sweetest, gentlest birds!
