Fun universe app by Margaret Leora Workman; Warponie Art

I want to tell you about these apps because I forget about them sometimes! I have used them a couple of times in the past couple of days. I saw what looked like a star but it was reddish so I pointed my phone at that when I was in the app and it told me that it is the planet Mars. When you are in the app it shows constellations. I have found two new constellations that I did not know about! I don’t know a ton about all of these things but I have heard of many of the popular constellations. There are billions of stars and you can click on many of these things in the app and it will tell you what it is and the information about it! It shows satellites that you can click on and learn about, there are many satellites floating around up there. Planets etc… and I found a white rocket that seemed to be randomly floating around. It was labeled ‘rocket’, that’s how I knew. I am wondering why there is a rocket flying around! How big is it? I tried clicking on that but it had nothing about it. Also you don’t have to be outside to use the app you can stay inside and it will show everything as if you were outside! Truly amazing! I have never heard of this constellation called ‘Octans’. There is another one that I forgot the name of but it looks like a ‘pump’ in the sky.

are the two that I know about. Check it out!!

“Claudius Ptolemy (85–165 CE) was a Greek mathematician, astronomer, geographer, and astrologer from Alexandria, Egypt. He is known for his geocentric theory of the universe, which was the basis of our understanding of the motions of stars and planets for over a thousand years. Ptolemy’s work allowed astronomers to accurately predict planetary positions and eclipses.” Taken from Wikipedia

I learned that there are the old constellations and then in 1920 there were some new constellations that were added in as well. I found that information online after finding many constellations on this app that I had never heard of. Obviously I am not keeping up with this constellation situation but since they were added in 1920 shouldn’t I have at least heard about these?? I guess in 1920 these items were around back then. How did they choose to add these things as constellations? Anyway I wanted to say that constellations help us to understand the stars and the universe and they aren’t really related to the concept of a horoscope. I know that people have used it for that and many people will disagree with my opinion. Constellations help us to understand the stars, planets and everything that we find in the universe. Constellations are groups of stars that make some sort of formation. I put some information randomly in here from other sources, but I did not reference them correctly. They do have quotation marks around them but since I am not writing an official paper for anyone i just put where I got them from. If you need to learn how to cite something properly go to the MLA or APA standards for that certain type of source. And it’s not recommended to use Wikipedia in an official paper because people without a degrees can write stuff in there and then other random people edit it so it’s only sort of credible. So why am I using it? Well in general it’s correct! But it’s not an astute resource. Use a .org or a .net or a book but not usually a .com. I did learn this in college. Some professors don’t care though…anyway I like Wikipedia because it’s written in regular language so that it’s easier to understand! So I normally read Wikipedia for info.

This is Mars. The glowing dot right above my roof. When you see it, it is red but you can’t tell in the video.
This is what it looks like when you find a constellation on this app. Then click on the name and it will show the ‘i’ to click on for more information.
This is the information for that constellation, scroll down and it will tell you the history of the constellation.
Here is the rocket I was talking about, there are several and Genesis 1, satellite launched in 2006
See the star formation? A triangle
This is the constellation Apus. See the star formation? There are 3
Found the Hubble space telescope and I clicked on it and it shows a larger image

This was a random dot that I clicked on and it turned out to be this

“Beta Herculis (β Herculis, abbreviated Beta Her, β Her), formally named Kornephoros /kɔːrˈnɛfərəs/, or Rutilicus, is a binary star and the brightest star in the northern constellation of Hercules at a base apparent visual magnitude of 2.81.” From Wikipedia

I clicked on a random glowing light and it was this.
Satellite launched 2009
