In this infographic about the history of marketing (Wainwright, 2017) I learned that outbound marketing started in 1450 with the printing press being invented. This information was sent out to consumers, but they did not get to interact with their own thoughts and opinions about those products. Then 200 years later written forms of marketing came to be, such as magazines and newspapers, which allowed consumers to know about what products and brands of products were available and popular. 200 years later, in 1920 radio ads allowed for the product marketers to connect with consumers but in a more personal way. 30 years later, in 1954 television ads gave a ‘face’ to the products and brands but this still was called outbound marketing. Then again, 30 years later in 1981 the first computer became available for consumers to purchase and then it only took another 13 years for the internet to be available for people to use for marketing their products. The internet allows information to be sent to masses of people. Then 4 years later the capability of using search engines became available. This allowed for the technique of inbound marketing to be used by marketers. Customers could interact with products using their opinions and now marketers could understand how their product effected the world around them along with people through this information coupled with the proof of sales reports that were generated through using computers. In 2006 the use of social media came into view. Social media distributes communication through the use of computers by using the consumers recorded opinions and desires and then reporting that information to the product agencies.
New Technologies now involve using artificial intelligence or AI to draft image creations, write resumes, write portfolios for prospective employees to send to prospective employers in a very large mass of emails. This has allowed the capability for consumers to utilize AI powered co-pilots. (Microsoft edge, 2023) These AI systems import browsing data from other devices into one location so that the AI can have a complete picture of your wants and desires and then create templates for a consumer to use for their own benefit. Microsoft also claims that this system helps with security within their programs for consumers. These systems can also help a consumer to find what kind of hotel that they would like to stay at for vacations or what kind of ice cream that is available in their area bases on their wants and desires.
In my opinion Covid-19 is a very large market driver. It has caused people to work from home, take staycations and wear masks when they are out in public. This has changed the needs, wants and desires of consumers in all of society.
Another market driver in my opinion is the use of AI. I believe that AI is a response to Covid-19 being a market driver and also is a market driver within itself as well because people are in love with the use of technology. We want a way to make our lives easier and AI provides that. It provides businesses with the opportunity to be more efficient, save money and for workers to be less in contact with covid-19. AI provides safety in the workplace. These drivers relate to the trend in the infographic of how the communication of information about brands is given to people. Society has had to compensate for these drives in a way that benefits the marketers and consumers and has been successful through the use of AI.
My favorite brand of ice cream is Ben and Jerry’s. I learned that the sales of this brand have risen since Covid-19 has been in place. (Conway, 2023) I believe that consumers want comfort and ice cream provides that.
