I always learned that moths lie their wings flat when they land and butterflies land with their wings up. But this one seemed to do both and it looks like it has those owl eye markings in the inner wings in order to scare away predators. I couldn’t find anything that helped me to name this online. I took these pictures in my house. It finally was able to fly out. Why do insects not see open doors and just fly out? Like, it’s a really big opening with sunlight streaming through and they choose to buzz and hit the window right next to the open door! Just fly out!
