hey! did I already put this recipe on my blog? its somewhat different this time and I added up the cost of it and I found out that you can freeze these crusts and add toppings later.
here is the recipe for the flat bread. just remember that all of the measurements are equal except for the flour which you can just add however much you want.
This time I used the 1/2 cup measurement
1/2 (.5) sourdough starter
1/2 (.5) water
1/2(.5) oil
1/2 tsp salt and other spices if you would like, like Italian or you can throw some minced garlic or onions in there. or small minced vegetables. if you do that that will add more water so you will have to add more flour to compensate.
1 cup to 1 1/2 cups of flour. the more flour that you use the stiffer the crust will be and not as soft
spread all of it on a cookie sheet and bake at 375 degrees until done
you can cut these and put them in plastic bags and freeze them. then pull each one out whenever and add on top:
oil (whatever kind that you have)
sauce straight from a can or jar and sprinkle on spices. we want this to be easy. People who like to make sauce all day do not like me because I don’t like killing farm animals just to make one simple thing. You have heard that saying about having to “kill the cow” right? its a metaphor for people who don’t live on farms. my grandmother always had to kill actual chickens and I never put that on my bucket list. that’s why we have stores now a days. and I don’t like to see animals having to live in the dirt and mud and the cold air.
cheese (whatever kind) you can slice it and you do not have to shred it. no one likes to shred their own skin.
while that is baking take some frozen peppers and onions that come in the frozen section and wash them in a strainer with a couple of dots of soap. fry that with minced garlic and oil or butter.
take out the pizza and put on the vegetables. you can add meat if you want. just fry that first and when that is fully cooked add in the vegetables to it and garlic and fry that as well so that the raw chicken does not transfer bacteria to the vegetables.
Cost:
This amount of ingredients made two small pizzas (IMO)
$.24 flour
$.33 oil
$.08 sourdough starter
$.02 salt
$.48 tomato sauce
$1.84 mozzarella cheese
$1.03 frozen peppers and onions
$.08 spices
Total cost is $4.10 for the whole thing. I only ate half of this portion so the whole thing for me was $2.05 for lunch. I was really full. sourdough makes me more full faster than regular dough or bread. I had made this and cut the crust in half and froze them then pulled one portion out later. Sourdough bread has a lot of protein so I do not worry about having meat as often.
do not forget the Parmesan cheese!
