So at the store I decided that I could use a 2×4 for that instead of 1×1’s.
So if you go to the hardware store just make sure that you measure it, don’t rely on the label below it. Also the Lowe’s here sells 8 ft 2×4’s and some of those are quite a bit shorter for only a penny less. I talked to a manager and he explained that sometimes they get put into the wrong bin. I could see that since they are sitting right next to each other.
I used a jigsaw and that plastic protractor and it really came out evenly cut.
If I want it to be a craftsman type of door frame, I could add a 1×1 to the very top and cut it .5 to 1 inch longer. There are different types of doorway trim. This is technically called the minimalist I believe. There are also a couple of others; picture frame and a bungalow style. I found them on Pinterest, but you could just google ‘types of doorway trim’.

This is what I had found on Pinterest
These are 1×6 boards. They are actually .75×6 but. They were pieces that had already been cut that I put together. I could use bi-folding doors for this.
Breaking and entering is never ok
These are 1×3’s from Lowe’s. Actually they measure .75 x 3.5 though.
Taking a break from trim..,
