Word of the day by Margaret Leora Workman; Warponie Art

I haven’t done this post for a really long time because I couldn’t find a word that I thought could be meaningful. I wanted a reason for posting a ‘word of the day post’. Anyway, what about real vs. really? I grew up in a small town in Kansas. I could never figure out if that mattered as in ‘are people in small towns less likely to be corrected on how they speak?’ I wonder if there are less rules in small towns. Yes I agree with this because I grew up in a small town but I would visit people who were closer to a large city, and they never were able to ride their bike in the middle of the street. Real vs. really

NO:

Hi Jim, it’s a real hot day outside. Ain’t it?

Hey, that’s a real large order. You’re takin’ out of the store today. Ain’t it?

Wow, that’s a real, real big storm comin’ our way.

Let’s shop at Rosses and have a real nice day.

You are a real nice person to animals.

That car is real pretty.

She is a real special person.

Here are several instances where people use the word REAL but it should be the word REALLY. Whether you are talking about a person, place, thing or state of being it has to be the word REALLY because it is an adverb.

State of being is the place or condition of what you are.

REALLY is an adverb and these sentences call for an adverb to be used to describe the word that is used after it. In these sentences, I used the adjective ‘REAL’ but they need the adverb ‘REALLY’ instead. An adverb should come before the words; hot, large, big, nice, pretty, special.

The word REAL is an adjective. This word’s definition is that it exists and it isn’t imaginary.

I just found this today but it is not what I learned in school and please don’t do this because it is wrong. The English language will be ruined if this is taught in schools as being ok! I just found this today, the below picture. This cannot be done because they are different parts of speech. When did this happen?

When we diagram sentences we will find that part of speech matters in sentence construction. Have you had to diagram sentences? We did this in English class in middle school but grade schoolers need to learn this. This will help people to learn how to speak correctly by using the correct parts of speech. Ok so! REALLY and REAL are different parts of speech so they cannot possibly be interchanged in the same sentences.

My question is, does Europe accept this as well? I don’t know, but it is still incorrect because of the part of speech, and when people speak that way it’s truly jarring to one’s mind! This isn’t attractive and it’s just really incorrect!

Informally, it’s real incorrect.
