This small moth was on my window this morning! It was really interesting. Did you know that all moths and insects have names? They are all classified into categories. It’s called insect taxonomy. The AI overview says,
“Insect classification, also known as insect taxonomy, is the science of organizing and categorizing insects into a hierarchical system based on their evolutionary relationships and shared characteristics. This system helps scientists understand the diversity of insects and their evolutionary history. The main groups used in insect classification are phylum, class, order, family, genus, and species”

Here are all of the levels of taxonomy. The AI overview did not list all of them so I looked them up. They have added a few levels since I learned about these in public school. this moth looks like it could be in either taxonomy group. The two pics are very similar but they have different sub-names, but they are both in the same family called Crambidae.
